The annual Kieber Reunion was held on July 17, 1956 at Hartwig’s cottage on Lake Ontario (almost in it!). The Leib families were in charge.
It was a hot, humid day, but the Kiebers never notice the heat when they get together because they give out so much “hot air” themselves!
The Leibs came early for a change and Martin Kiebers also came for dinner. Fred Allens, Aunt Kit, Perkinses and Kramers also came for dinner but they couldn’t begin eating for ever so long because Norm Noellers had the ham in their car and you know it’s a long way fromCalifornia! However, they finally arrived with the chow. The Robert Perkinses’ were also present from Florida. After diner, more Kiebers came, family after family, until there were 79.
The games began with the young set. Susan Kramer won the peanut scramble and Gary Koch threw a football the farthest. Other games were according to age groups and the luckiest or smartest were the winners. Mildred Buckley and Esta Hartwig really puffed when pounding nails in a plank, but when they finished, Mildred was the winner. A donut game for the middle-aged boys proved they can eat donuts even without their hands and Bill Kramer proved to be the winner. Emmons Perkins displayed a very steady hand for his age when he dropped the most potatoes in a jar. The ladies also showed themselves steady-handed when, after being blindfolded, they spooned cottonballs from a plate in their laps, to one on their head. Mary Kieber Perkins was the winner. Bingo was played by the women and a three-legged race for the young boys was won by Robert Perkins and Kenneth Kieber.
The birth of Mary Ann Abbott on Sept. 19, 1954 and her death on Feb.23, 1955 was noted.
A rain shower hardly held off long enough for the group to finish the evening meal, so we picked up food, dashed to the cars, and soon headed for home. And so the end of another reunion,
