Valentin Rupp and Barbe Wittmer, 4th g-grandparents

Valentin was born 1762 in Oberhoffen-les-Wissembourg to Valentin Rupp and Madeleine Walter.

At various times in the records he is mentioned as a farmer, a laborer, and a weaver.

In about 1780 Valentin married Barbe Wittmer (Widmer) b. 1753, from nearby Barbelroth in Germany.She was daughter of Jacob Wittmer b. 1714 and Catherina Schreyer,also of Barbelroth. Jacob Wittmer’s father, Hans Adam b. 1674,was the first Wittmer we find in Barbelroth (from our line).The Wittmers,like so many  Alsatians and Palatinates, settled the Pfalz from Switzerland after the Thirty Years War ended in 1648.Hans Adam’s father, was Johannes Jacob b.1644 in Altnau, Kreuzlingen District, Thurgau, Switzerland, Johannes Jacob is my 7th great grandfather. The Wittmers were all Evangelisch, or Lutheran.

Back to Valentin and Barbe in Oberhoffen: they had 3 daughters. Susanna Catherina, b.1789, Marie “Catherine” Rupp b. 1792, Catherina ‘Barbara” Rupp b.1793.

(Third great grandparents) Susanna Catherina Rupp b.abt. 1789 Oberhoffen, d. 1846 Oberhoffen.Married Daniel Mueller (Müller) b. abt 1790 Rott.d. 1860 Oberhoffen. They had 5 children:

Elizabeth (daughter of Daniel Müller and Susanna Catherina Rupp)) b. 1810 m. 1834, Jacques Weimer,b. 1807,  a weaver from Steinseltz.

Jacques (son of Daniel Müller and Susanna Catherina Rupp)) b. 1815   j…there’s a Jake Müller in the Amherst NY records, who is about the same age!

Michel (son of Daniel Müller and Susanna Catherina Rupp)) b. 1817  possibly married Louise Hagelberger

(Great Great Grandparents) Catherine (daughter of Daniel Müller and Susanna Catherina Rupp) b.1819 m. Georg Michel Grimm  and they had 3 daughters; Catherine b. 1842 Lena b. 1848 Margeurethe b. 1850

Julienne (daughter of Daniel Müller and Susanna Catherina Rupp)) b. 1826 d. 1834 — only 8 years old.

Marie “Catherine” Rupp (daughter of Valentin and Barbe) –b. 1792 Oberhoffen. d.1862 Oberhoffen. Married Henri Kuntz, a clothes tailor,  of Rott in 1812. They had 5 children: These need researching in the Oberhoffen records to learn of any possible descendecies.

Catherina ‘Barbara” Rupp (daughter of Valentin and Barbe)  b.1793 Oberhoffen d.1881 in Preston (Now In Cambridge), Waterloo Co, Ontario, Canada. In 1816 Barbara married Phillip Jacob Bernhardt b. 1796 Oberhoffen. They had 5 children.

Rosina b.1832 Buffalo NY Married Frederic Lang in 1848. Fred died in 1850. They had one daughter: Karolina b. 1849 d. 1852.In 1858 Rosina married Abel Salyards.He died in 1864 from consumption.

Rosina married John Beck in 1867 Preston. John had previously been married to Sophie Israel who                                                    died in 1865 and they had had 3 children.
