Baked Beans

Another Anna Ruhland Kieber’s recipes. Pris Kieber served this every Saturday evening alongside Hamburgers or Hot dogs. It makes a big pot and the kids loved having baked bean sandwiches for lunch from the leftovers.

INGREDIENTS

1 lb. dried marrowfat beans. Great Northern may be used if marrowfat are unavailable.

1/2 lb. lean salt pork. Thick, sliced bacon may be used.

Brown sugar.

1 jar chili sauce

DIRECTIONS

1. Soak beans overnight

2. Drain water and add fresh water to cover beans

3.Add salt pork or bacon and boil until beans are tender.

4. Drain water and put beans in baking dish.

5. Add chili sauce to beans

6. Cover with water and sprinkle brown sugar over beans

7. Bake at 250 degrees until most of fluid has dried – about 1 -2 hours.
